Paisley patterns

Did you know that Paisley is the name of a curved droplet fabric motif? This pattern is called Cashmere in French or Spanish. Cashmere is both a tibetan goat producing excellent wool and a region in Northern India where paisley shawls were born. These designs arrived in Europe by 1850 and they set trends.

Cashmere shawls became so popular that they started being produced in some european countries. English name paisley comes from the scottish town of Paisley, which specialized in manufacturing indian style shawls during the XIX century.
